Mr. Barky
(Ernest Kinsolving and Karl Franzen)

These two long time folk musicians will amuse you with a varied set of historical songs, accompanied by a multitude of instruments, as they make their musical way over land and sea, from the hills of Scotland to the American frontier and beyond. They met in 1986 at a mini-folk revival that took place at St. Michael's Alley in Palo Alto. They both have played in the groups Four Shillings Short and Harmon's Peak. Ernest now plays with the group Biddy Early's Bottle. Karl Franzen once played with Broceliande. He now plays with Lady Doris Williams. Both Ernest and Karl also play in the trio Rosin the Beau, who, with Alan Keith, open the yearly St. Patrick's Day party at St. Stephen's Green in Mt. View.

Karl and Ernest will amaze the masses with sprightly tunes, ancient songs and incomprehensible stories.

Set your venue ablaze with Mr. Barky's combustible mixture of sprightly tunes, wry antique songs and possibly incomprehensible stories, kindled by a multitude of instruments. Escape with them through a window to the past. Fly across land and sea, from the American frontier to the craggy shores of Brittain. Fly in for the music, stay for the warmly inflammatory subject matter. AOK for kids (they won't get it).

theater of the mind / time machine / portal to the past / brain rearrangement chamber / amaze and delight you / enlighten and transform you / bully and cajole you / the lean, green sound of Mr. Barky / come for the music, stay for the slightly inflammatory subject matter / oh, but its fine for kids, they won't get it anyway / stale coffee / erudition / comic relief / educational opportunity / moments of excruciating embarrassment / cheap entertainment / mind-bending transformative experience
